Tigers-Red Sox clear benches after Valdez allows 10 early runs

Detroit – Tigers starter Framber Valdez was ejected in the fourth inning Tuesday after he drilled Red Sox hitter Trevor Story in the back.

USA TODAY

The Red Sox had just hit back to back home runs off him – Willson Contreras and Wilyer Abreu. They were big blasts, 449 feet for Contreras and 396 for Abreu. Both admired their hits and took their time around the bases.

Valdez’s next pitch was straight into Story’s back.

Benches and bullpens from both sides emptied but nothing happened, just a lot of talking.

It was a nightmare start all the way around for Valdez, who was tagged with 10 runs and nine hits in three-plus innings.

8 Shocking Rules Met Gala Guests Have to Follow

The Met Gala is held annually on the first Monday in May

NEED TO KNOW

  • Guests must follow rules at the exclusive event, including a no-phone policy

  • Attendees have to pay for a ticket, which costs $100,000

The first Monday in May has arrived, which means fashion's biggest night — a.k.a.the Met Gala— is here.

This year, another set of A-listers will ascend the iconic steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art for the fashionable festivities. The dress code is "Fashion Is Art," tied to the theme for the2026 Met Gala, "Costume Art," which celebrates the spring 2026 exhibition sharing the same name.

But the notoriously exclusive night isn't without its rules — and steep price tag.Vogue's global editorial director and former editor-in-chiefAnna Wintour, who has been at the helm of the Met Gala as either chair or co-chair since 1995, famously discourages attendees from offering insight into what takes place inside the hallowed halls of the Met, asking stars to refrain from using their phones or revealing too much about the night itself.

Still,Voguehas shared certain details. "Guests must abide by a no-phone (and, therefore, no social media) policy once they’ve entered the museum," anarticle on the magazine's sitereads. "But the run-of-show involves cocktails, dinner and a high-profile performer (or two). Attendees always have a moment to explore the exhibition, too."

While rumors that Wintour has toapprove everyone's looksare untrue, the event still follows strict guidelines, from how to dress to what can be shared.

Here are the most surprising rules you didn't know Met Gala attendees must follow.

Attendees have to be invited to the Met Gala

In order to attend the Met Gala, you must be invited (and just because you were invited once, that doesn't guarantee entry every year!). Celebrities, sports stars, fashion figures and other prominent pop culture names of today are among the prestigious bunch who receive invites.

The A-list guest list is kept confidential until the night before the Met Gala, though fashion fans cast predictions based on years past. Regulars who often attend, for example, includeBeyoncé,Kim Kardashian,Blake Lively,Gigi HadidandRihanna.

Plus, fashion designers are often invited to accompany their muses on the red carpet and showcase their elaborate designs. Marc Jacobs, Christian Siriano, Nicolas Ghesquière and Zac Posen are step staples.

Attendees have to pay for a Met Gala ticket

Receiving the invite is only the beginning: You must also purchase a ticket to attend, or be a guest of someone who has.

After all, at its core, the Met Gala is a fundraising event for the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

The earnings go toward its extensive fashion collection consisting of garments and accessories from the past seven centuries.

Therefore, should you be so lucky to receive a coveted invite from Wintour, be prepared to pay upwards of thousands of dollars to enter.

This year, an individual ticket costs $100,000 (up $25,000 from 2025) — while a table starts at $350,000, perThe New York Times.

Attendees are encouraged to follow a Met Gala dress code

Each year, the Costume Institute commissions an exhibit that pulls together art-quality pieces of fashion, and the hosts issue a corresponding dress code for the gala that helps inform the attendees' ensembles for the evening.

The 2026 theme is "Costume Art" and the Met Gala dress code is "Fashion Is Art" whichVoguesaid "encourages attendees to consider the many ways that designers use the body as their blank canvas."

The dress code is one of the most talked-about aspects of the evening, with high-profile celebrities and their designers dreaming up creative, head-turning interpretations of the theme.

Some choose the literal route, others opt for avant-garde — and yet others, likeKaty Perryin 2019,go haute hamburger.

(But if you don't have a fairy godstylist like Law Roach outfitting you and you just want an elegant gown for the evening, err on the side of formality; in past years they've specified white tie.)

Voguemaintains a "no-phone policy" within the walls of the event.

A no-phone policy inside the Met Gala means a no-social media policy from inside the event, either.

However, when the stars convene in the bathroom,it appears all bets are off!

Attendees can't smoke inside the Met Gala

WhileVoguehas its fair share of Met Gala guidelines in place, the Metropolitan Museum of Art itself has its own set of rules to ensure the safety of the guests in attendance.

No smoking is among them, outlined on themuseum's website.

"Smoking, including electronic cigarettes, is prohibited in the Museum or near the entrances," the visitor guideline reads.

In addition to the safety of the partygoers, this rule protects the priceless art inside the exhibit as well.

Attendees must sit in assigned seats at the Met Gala

Seating is thoughtfully arranged for the exclusive affair, with expert party planner Eaddy Kiernan in charge.

“We start with a seating document when the names come together in December,” she previously toldVogue.

While she says the "actual seating chart" doesn't come together until about a month before the gala, the early process gives them "a sense for the layout of the room and the flow of the evening.”

Kiernan’s goal is for everyone to have fun, pairing stars who they think "will just get on like a house on fire" and considering what guests will "talk about" if they’re seated next to each other.

"And we try to make sure someone isn’t staring into the eyes of a former flame,” she added.

Since the guest list changes every year, so does the seating chart. “It’s fun for me to look back through them, to see who was invited, who was sitting next to whom," she said. "They’re almost little time capsules of what was going on each year."

Guests must be 18 or older to attend the Met Gala

Met Gala invitees must be 18 or older to attend the event, a rule that was brought to light in May 2018 whenDance MomsalumMaddie ZieglertoldThe Hollywood Reporterthat she "can't go because I'm not old enough" at the time.

“Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination" was the Met Gala theme that year, prompting suspicion over whether the age restriction was in place because of it.

Event organizers told the outlet that it had nothing to do with the theme, rather an executive decision that “it’s not an appropriate event for people under 18.”

AsDevil Wears Prada 2makes waves in theaters—the film just hadthe biggest opening weekendfor a traditional comedy in over a decade—star Anne Hathaway is attending theMet Gala. “After many, many Met Galas, this was, too me, I love this exhibit. I’ve always been very inspired by art, and I went to school with Peter McGough—we collaborated, he hand-painted Anne’s dress,” Kors revealed on the carpet. The Greek Goddess of Peace is painted on the back of her gown, as inspired by the poem “Ode on a Grecian Urn.”

Hathaway has largely stuck to a color palette of black, white, and red, over the years at the Met Gala, so tonight’s outfit fits in perfectly.

Hathaway has starred in two films with Met Gala plots: The aforementionedDevil Wears Prada 2andOcean’s 8, where the film’s key heist took place at the event.

Still, she doesn’t consider herself a fashion person. “I view myself more as a guest,” sheexplained toV Magazine. “I think it’d be an insult to someone whose education revolved around it, whose life revolves around it, who has done a full fashion cycle in multiple cities as opposed to just, like, getting invited to a show and an after-party. I think there’s a degree of stamina and schlepping involved in being a proper fashion person. I’m very grateful to be a guest. I mean, I’ve studied it, but it’s informal. I’m aware of the history. I love fashion photography. And I’ve been welcomed for a long time and been shown great kindness and generosity by people whose lives it is. But I’m an actress first.”

Jacob Misiorowski injury update: Brewers optimistic they avoided disaster

Jacob Misiorowskiavoided a major injury, and perhaps won't have to miss any time on the mound at all.

USA TODAY Sports

Milwaukee Brewersmanager Pat Murphytold reportersSaturday, May 2 that he thinks Misiorowski's "going to be fine," some 15 hours after theright hamstring injury the right-hander sufferedthe night before, when he took a no-hitter into the sixth inning of theBrewers' 6-1 victory over the Washington Nationals.

Misiorowski, 24, was overpowering most of the night, striking out eight, retiring the last 11 batters he faced, averaging 101 mph on his fastball in the first inning and throwing 43 pitches between 100 and 103 mph. He did not know he had a no-hitter when he struck out the first batter of the sixth, and then, after throwing one pitch to leadoff hitter James Wood, motioned for a trainer to come out.

That sent a chill through the Brewers dugout – and the industry at large – given Misiorowski's high-velocity repertoire and the inherent risk involved. But the injury did not involve his golden arm.

Instead, he exited due to a barking hamstring, at least for the moment keeping the Brewers' extensive injury list a little lighter. Veteran right-hander Brandon Woodruff was placed on the IL with shoulder inflammation Friday, and the club is also awaiting the return of Quinn Priester, who is on a rehab assignment.

Ballpark vibes, big plays and wild celebrations during 2026 MLB season

Despite the injuries – including the potential loss of key reliever Angel Zerpa to season-ending arm surgery – the Brewers entered Saturday 17-14.

Misiorowski, a 6-7, 200-pounder, leads the major leagues in strikeouts (59 in 38 innings), strikeout percentage (37.2%) and whiff percentage (39.5%). His lone IL stint came in August 2025 due to a left tibia contusion, though he returned shortly thereafter.

Alysa Liu’s New Louis Vuitton Role Marks a Major Fashion Move

It’s been just a few months sinceAlysa Liucaptured the world’s attention at the2026 Milano-Cortina Olympics, delivering a gold medal performance that instantly became one of the Games’ defining moments. It didn’t take long for Liu to captivate the fashion world, too. Today, on the morning of the 2026 Met Gala, Louis Vuitton has named Liu as its latest house ambassador.

Elle Denim jacket with a fitted silhouette and button details

“It’s honestly surreal to be a house ambassador for Louis Vuitton,” the Olympian tells ELLE exclusively. “It’s truly an honor and a privilege, especially for a figure skater, to be recognized in this way, and I take so much pride in that.”

Portrait with obscured facial features focusing on hair and clothing.

Liu’s stay in Milan was an unabashed success. She won two gold medals at the 2026 games—taking both the individual and team titles—and became the first American woman in 24 years to win Olympic gold in women’s figure skating. Equally as impressive as her victories was her individuality—whether it be her now-signature“halo” hair, viral smiley piercing, or free-spirited approach to her craft. “I don’t like boxing myself in,” she explains of her approach to style both on and off the ice.

Liu first entered the Louis Vuitton sphere shortly after, when she made her Paris Fashion Week debut at the brand’s fall/winter 2026 show in March. She now joins an elite roster of the maison’s house ambassadors, an impressive list formed under artistic director Nicolas Ghesquière that includes the likes of Lisa, Zendaya, and Ana de Armas.

When Louis Vuitton approached you about becoming an ambassador, what was your initial reaction?

Life is really about connection, and I feel that Louis Vuitton has really made me feel included. It’s a really empowering feeling to be a part of something so artistic.

What are your first memories of Louis Vuitton?

When I was 11, at a competition in L.A., I saw that one of my competitors had a mini Louis Vuitton backpack with the classic logo-ed up monogram. I remember thinking to myself,That’s so cute!

Person carrying ice skates.

How would you describe your personal style right now—and how has it evolved over the years?

My style is very eclectic! My personal style has evolved over the years naturally, as I’ve gotten older, but mostly because I’m coming back into myself. I know what I like and what makes me feel good, but because I’m still evolving, it’s fun to leave room for the unexpected and the discovery part of my personality.

Do you see fashion becoming an even bigger part of your life and career moving forward?

I see fashion like I see my art [and] figure skating as a form of self-expression. I don’t think of the two worlds as separate. I love to exercise self-expression in everything I do! Everything I choose to do or wear is just an extension of myself, and that’s what I love sharing. There is nothing to balance as long as I’m just being myself.
