Intel outlined several risks with the United States taking a 9.9% stake in the company.

In an SEC filing, Intel said the deal could dilute shares and hurt its international business.

Intel's future funding options could also be negatively affected.

Business deals often involve risk — even when you're dealing with the United States government.

Intel acknowledged several risks the company faces with the US taking a 9.9% stake in the chipmaker via an investment of $8.9 billion in common stock. It's a rare deal in which the government is taking a financial stake in a publicly traded company.

Intel, which has been working on a turnaround, announced the deal on Friday, saying it reflected "the confidence the Administration has in Intel to advance key national priorities and the critically important role the company plays in expanding the domestic semiconductor industry."

In a Monday filing to the Securities and Exchange Commission, the company outlined a number of "risk factors" related to the US government's investment, from negative impacts on shareholders to hindering future opportunities. Companies often add to their risk factors to fend off litigation — these sections can run for pages in quarterly filings, addressing everything from cyberattacks to pandemics.

Dilutes shares of existing stockholders

Intel said in the filing that because it was issuing stock to the government at a discount, it would dilute the shares of existing stockholders. The company added that shares could be diluted further if the government purchases more shares in the future.

Reduces the voting power of existing shareholders

Intel said the deal could make the US government its largest stockholder, adding that it would reduce the voting rights and power of existing stockholders.

"The US Government's interests in the Company may not be the same as those of other stockholders," the filing said.

The SEC filing also said the US government's powers could "substantially limit" Intel's ability to pursue future transactions that would benefit shareholders, including by deterring some third parties from engaging with the company.

It could hurt Intel's international business

Intel said 76% of the company's sales came from outside the US in the 2024 fiscal year. The company's non-US business could be negatively affected by the US government's status as a major stockholder, which could also subject the company to additional regulations and restrictions abroad.

Could limit Intel's options for other government funding

Intel said in the SEC filing that the deal, which involves converting government grants into an equity stake in Intel, could limit its ability to secure government grants in the future.

Intel also said it has other existing grants with government agencies and could pursue more in the future. The company said the deal could put those at risk, either by agencies being unwilling to provide grants in the future or by also expecting to convert their grants into equity investments. Those outcomes could limit Intel's ability to access capital, increase its cost of capital, or spike its operating costs.

A lot of unknowns remain, and several factors could disrupt the deal

Intel said the deal completion timing was uncertain, "and there can be no assurance the Company will receive the funds on the timeline or in the amounts anticipated."

It also said the deal could be affected by changes in laws as well as changes in the federal administration or Congress.

The financial, tax, and accounting impacts of the deal were also still uncertain, the company said, adding its analyses had not been completed due to the "complexity of the transactions."

Other potential risks, including lawsuits

Intel said that given the scarcity of precedents for similar deals in the US, "it is difficult to foresee all the potential consequences."

"Among other things, there could be adverse reactions, immediately or over time, from investors, employees, customers, suppliers, other business or commercial partners, foreign governments or competitors," the SEC filing said.

It added that the deal could also result in lawsuits or increased public and political scrutiny of Intel.

The Pumpkin Spice Latte is back at Starbucks: See entire fall menu

We are less than a week away from the calendar flipping from August to September, which means people and companies are gearing up for the start of fall.

Starbucks has unveiled its fall menu for 2025, with the items, including the immensely popular Pumpkin Spice Latte, available beginning Tuesday, Aug. 26.

First introduced in 2003, the return of the PSL has become an annual rite of late summer since Starbucks introduced the drink. Over the last two decades, customers have looked forward to the PSL's return.

The PSL, which Starbucks says is its most popular seasonal beverage – available hot, iced or blended – is made with real pumpkin flavor, pumpkin-related spices (including cinnamon, nutmeg and clove), Starbucks Signature Espresso and steamed milk. The drink is topped with whipped cream and pumpkin pie spices.

What else is on the Starbucks fall menu?

Also featured on Starbucks' fall menu are returning favorites such as the Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew, Iced Pumpkin Cream Chai and Pecan Crunch Oatmilk Latte.

Newcomers to the menu a new Pecan Oatmilk Cortado, as well as a new Italian Sausage Egg Bite on the food side of things. Returning food items include the Pumpkin Cream Cheese Muffin and the Raccoon Cake Pop.

The Cortado, a new style of coffee drink Starbucks added earlier this year, is made with three ristretto shots of Blonde Espresso and steamed milk (ristretto espresso shots are smaller and more concentrated than traditional ones). A current option is the Brown Sugar Oatmilk Cortado.

Lil Nas X's father Robert Stafford said his Grammy-winning son was "in great spirits" and "doing great mentally" following his arrest Thursday after he was allegedly found walking the streets of L.A. wearing only underwear and cowboy boots.

"He's in good spirits. He's all right." Stafford told reporters who gathered around him Monday, as captured in video by TMZ. "He's very remorseful for what happened." He added that the rapper, born Montero Hill, is "going to get the help that he needs."

When Stafford was asked about whether illegal drugs were involved, he said "absolutely not."

He also said his son was "doing great mentally."

Lil Nas X was charged with four felonies: three counts of battery against a police officer and one count of resisting an executive officer, after he had allegedly "charged at officers" and was transported to a local hospital for treatment of a possible overdose, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Police Department told EW.

Asked what his first conversation with his son had been like, his dad said, "It was awesome. Awesome. We shed tears. We shared laughter. But he's in great spirits. He's gonna be great. Like I say, God is good."

At an arraignment Monday, the "Old Town Road" artist pleaded not guilty to all charges, and his bail was set at $75,000. He was released that afternoon, according to TMZ.

The rapper's lawyer, Drew Findling, also spoke to reporters in video captured by the outlet, pointing to his client's professional accomplishments and that he's "never stepped in a courthouse before."

He said he wasn't sure yet if the incident had to do with any kind of substance, medical, or emotional issue.

"There's no way for us to know right now," he said. "Just know that we're going to do our very best to address those issues."

"Anybody that has kids, you hear about things like this all the time," Findling continued. "Don't forget, he's 26 years old. So it's not unusual for something like this to happen, particularly when you have the pressure of being recognized internationally like him."

He asked that people "don't judge somebody by the worst moment in their life."

Sam Asghari is responding after his ex-wife Britney Spears said their previous marriage "felt like a fake distraction"

The former couple met in 2016 and wed in June 2022 before separating 14 months later

"I was in love with her, will always have love for her, and wish her the best always," Asghari tells PEOPLE per his rep from BAC Talent

Sam Asghari is speaking out after Britney Spears had strong words about their previous marriage.

"Our Marriage was very real to me," Asghari tells PEOPLE, per his rep from BAC Talent. "It may have been short, but we were together for seven years. I was in love with her, will always have love for her, and wish her the best always."

His statement comes after the "Toxic" singer, 43, reflected on their marriage in an Instagram post on Monday, Aug. 25, calling their time together "the hardest years of my life."

She also claimed that during their marriage, she was "cut off from calling or texting" her two sons, Jayden James and Sean Preston, whom she shares with her ex-husband Kevin Federline.

"I remember in shock my secret to survival was denial and a lot of tears its weird me and Sam were married but it almost felt like a fake distraction to help me deal with it …" the singer wrote.

In a June 2025 interview with Page Six Radio co-hosts Danny Murphy and Ian Mohr, Asghari shared that there were some pitfalls to being in a highly publicized relationship with the pop star.

"I can't sit here and lie and say, 'It wasn't good for me,' " the model, 31, said, adding, "When you're in such a public relationship ... it sort of gave me that platform for who I am."

"I mean, we met on the acting set. We met as co-workers," he added of being introduced to Spears while portraying her love interest in her 2016 music video for "Slumber Party."

Asghari recalled people referring to him as "cheesy" when he would try to find work, saying the negative assumptions about him made him "absolutely" have "to work harder to prove myself."

However, the former personal trainer has also defended Spears against backlash.

"The last thing I want to do is speak on my wife's behalf, I will never do that. I respect her privacy, that's why I don't talk as much," he said in a video shared to his Instagram Story at the time. "I found it absolutely disgusting for the people that were in her life at the time when she didn't have a voice, they went and told her story like it was theirs. It was absolutely disgusting."

He also claimed that Spears was "in prison, where her father tells her what to do, what water to drink, who to see, and use her as a money-making machine," adding, "now you're gonna put her under a microscope and tell her story? No. That's also disgusting, so don't do that."

Asghari filed for divorce on Aug. 16, 2023, after 14 months of marriage. The former couple did not have any children together, but the actor was previously vocal about wanting to be a dad with Spears. Their divorce was finalized in May 2024.

Chris CwikAugust 25, 2025 at 10:04 PM

Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh is already in the midst of a historic 2025 season. On Monday, he added yet another milestone to his already impressive list of accomplishments this year.

With a first-inning shot against the San Diego Padres Monday on night, Raleigh became the first major leaguer this season to club 50 home runs.

Padres starter JP Sears threw a 3-2 fastball over the lower inside corner of the plate. Raleigh turned on it and launched the ball 419 feet into the upper deck of the left-field stands at T-Mobile Park.

The solo shot gave the Mariners an early 1-0 lead.

Raleigh reaching the milestone before any other player this season shouldn't come as a major surprise. The 28-year-old has been on a torrid power pace all season. He had some stiff competition from New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge earlier in the year, but an elbow injury sidelined Judge for a few days near the end of July, allowing Raleigh to widen his home-run lead.

[Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season]

At 40 home runs, Judge still remains on the periphery of the home-run race. The same can be said of Seattle Mariners third baseman Eugenio Suarez, who also has 40 home runs. Entering play Monday, Kyle Schwarber and Shohei Ohtani share second place, with each players sitting on 45 home runs.

While any of those players can go on a power binge and challenge Raleigh, his chances of leading the league in home runs feels high. Though Raleigh has hit just .216 in 34 games following the All-Star break, he's maintained a strong .485 slugging percentage over that period thanks to 12 home runs.

With roughly a month left in the regular season, Barry Bonds' single-season record of 73 home runs appears safe for now. Following Monday's home run, Raleigh sits 23 away from tying Bonds' record. Though Raleigh has put up some exceptional power numbers in 2025, the most home runs he's managed in a single month is 12.

The single-season record may be out of reach, but Raleigh still has plenty of time to secure some other accolades. The American League MVP race is expected to come down to Raleigh and Judge. While Judge has been the better overall hitter, Raleigh's power production and phenomenal defense could result in him winning the award. The two are essentially in a dead heat for the award according to FanGraphs' version of WAR, so the last month of the year could decide the award.

Thanks to Raleigh's excellence, the Mariners are battling it out for a wild-card spot in the AL. While crossing milestones and winning individual awards is nice, securing a postseason spot and leading the M's to their first-ever championship would be the perfect way for Raleigh to cap a legendary season.

The U.S. has confirmed the first case of a flesh-eating parasite in a human, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) said on Monday.

New World screwworm (NWS) is a species of parasitic flies that feed on live tissue. The name refers to the way in which maggots screw themselves into the tissue of animals with their sharp mouth hooks, causing extensive damage and often leading to death.

Dinar Bud/Getty Images - PHOTO: The New World screw-worm fly

The patient returned from travel to El Salvador, an HHS spokesperson told ABC News in a statement.

The risk to the public in the U.S. is very low, they added.

The patient -- a Maryland resident -- has since recovered from the infection and there was no evidence of further spread, the state's health department said in a statement.

Countries in Central America and Mexico have been dealing with an outbreak of the parasite among livestock.

MORE: US bans livestock imports from Mexico due to spread of flesh-eating pest

Panama saw infections among livestock rise from an average of 25 cases annually to over 6,500 in 2023, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) says. Since then, the parasite has been detected in seven other Central American countries, breaking a previously established barrier that contained the pest to South America for decades.

Screwworm has not been detected in animals within the U.S., the USDA noted. It was largely eradicated for decades in the U.S. through a technique in which male screwworm flies are sterilized and then released into the environment to mate with females until the population dies out.

But given the spread in neighboring countries, "[NWS] is not only a threat to our ranching community -- but it is a threat to our food supply and our national security," the USDA said in a press release where they outlined initiatives to prevent the parasite from crossing into the U.S.

Christian Torres/Anadolu via Getty Images - PHOTO: Cattle are detained in the pens of the Chihuahua Regional Livestock Union in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico on November 27, 2024.

Those initiatives include building a sterile fly production facility in Texas and hiring mounted patrol officers to track wildlife crossing as well as detector dogs to track imports along ports of entry. In May, the USDA banned imports of live cattle, horse and bison from Mexico and has since slowly re-opened trade.

Earlier this month, the FDA issued an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for animal drugs to treat or prevent infestations caused by screwworm.

People who travel to outbreak areas, spend time among livestock animals, sleep outdoors, and have an open wound are at greater risk of becoming infested with screwworm, the CDC noted.
