BERLIN (AP) — A shooting near a mosque in central Sweden on Friday left two people injured, and police said they believed it was linked to gang violence.

The shooting took place outside a mosque in the central city of Örebro in the early afternoon following Friday prayers, police said. They did not immediately release details of the injuries. Many emergency services were at the scene, and police advised the public to stay away.

Police said they have opened a preliminary investigation into attempted murder and that they suspect the crime is tied to local gangs.

For years, Sweden has grappled with gang violence, and criminal gangs often recruit teenagers in socially disadvantaged immigrant neighborhoods to carry out hits.

Local TV news channel TV4 said there has been tension between two rival gangs in Örebro recently.

Home sellers are getting ghosted at record rates. In June, over 57,000 U.S. home-sale agreements were canceled — about 15% of all contracts, according to recent Redfin data.

Find Out: I'm a Realtor: This Is Why No One Wants To See Your Home

While there are elements that are out of a seller's control in these situations, there are some things sellers can do to make it much less likely that a buyer will ghost. Sam DeBianchi LaViola, a real estate mogul and former "Million Dollar Listing Miami" star, shared her top tips for getting a buyer to follow through with a sale.

Trending Now: Suze Orman's Secret to a Wealthy Retirement--Have You Made This Money Move?

Verify the Buyer's Finances

Sellers should not only ask for preapproval letters, but also ask for proof of funds to verify buyers can afford the down payment and additional expenses like taxes and insurance.

Get Every Offer in Writing

Sellers should require all offers to be in writing. When people put things in writing, there's a lot more thought and seriousness that comes with it, and generally deals have a better chance of coming together when initially done in writing.

Be Aware: Real Estate Agents Explain Why You Should Never Invest In These 7 Home Features

Give Buyers Time To Inspect

Sellers should consider allowing for longer due diligence periods so buyers can feel more confident in what they are buying, rather than feel rushed into having to make decisions on whether or not they want to take on a potential project, renovation or repair.

More times than not, buyers will disappear if they feel pressured to make a decision quickly. What may seem like a simple repair to a seller may be a bigger deal to a buyer, so giving them a reasonable amount of time — seven to 14 days, depending on the property — for an inspection is key.

And remember, if one buyer has an issue, the next buyer likely will too. Address it with a good due diligence period to prevent repeat problems.

Know Your Home's Strengths and Flaws

Sellers should have a list of upgrades and features ready for the buyer to review so they understand the value behind their purchase. This can also help a seller play into their home's best features, and help diminish any "lesser" features.

However, sellers should also be aware of their home's less attractive selling points, such as a super small bedroom, and have ideas for how to combat these things — for example, staging a small bedroom to show the space it does have and what it can fit. [This prevents] a buyer from second guessing its possibilities.

Work With a Skilled Communicator

Sometimes buyers ghost simply because of lack of communication, and sometimes the seller just doesn't know what to do or say to keep a deal alive. Consider working with a realtor who does.

A good experienced realtor will be knowledgeable in communicating everything so that the buyer feels comfortable and secure in what they're buying. Hiccups in a transaction can occur, but nothing should be a roadblock.

Everything can be fixable in a transaction. It's all about compromise and ensuring that everyone feels like they are getting a "win."

Key Points -

TMC stock is losing ground after the company reported its second-quarter results yesterday.

The seabed mining specialist is targeting a Q4 2027 window for the commencement of its mining projects.

Some investors seem to be disappointed that the mining projects aren't expected to start earlier.

10 stocks we like better than TMC The Metals Company ›

TMC The Metals Company (NASDAQ: TMC) stock is falling in Friday's trading following the company's recent earnings report. TMC's share price was down 8.6% as of 10:45 a.m. ET and had been off as much as 12.2% earlier in trading.

TMC reported its second-quarter results, issued business updates, and held an investor conference call after the market closed yesterday. While the company issued some generally encouraging commentary on its path to beginning commercial operations, some investors appear to be unhappy with the timeline. Despite the post-earnings sell-off today, the stock is still up roughly 339% year to date as of this writing.

TMC stock sinks on Q2 business update

TMC reported a net loss of $0.20 per share on no revenue in the second quarter. The sales result in the period wasn't surprising because the seabed mining specialist is still going through permitting processes and laying other foundations to begin commercial operations. Additionally, the company's operating loss of $22 million doesn't look particularly concerning in the context of its long-term business opportunities.

On the other hand, management set a Q4 2027 date to begin mining operations -- and some investors were likely hoping that the company would manage to get things started earlier. TMC stock has seen incredible valuation gains in conjunction with hopes for rapid scaling of its seabed mining operations, and the targeted start date seems to be causing some investors to take profits on the stock.

What's next for TMC?

TMC released two studies suggesting a net present value of $23.69 billion for its mining projects. The company also issued generally reassuring commentary on its outlook for receiving the necessary permitting approvals.

The company's seabed mining projects have seemingly received some significant support in the form of an executive order from President Donald Trump aimed at speeding up permitting approvals for offshore domestic mining projects. Conversely, the targeted Q4 2027 production date may have some investors worried that the estimated start date aligns with the ramping up of the next U.S. presidential election cycle. TMC has potentially explosive growth opportunities, but there is a lot of uncertainty on the horizon.

August 15, 2025 at 11:26 PM

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -A divided federal appeals court on Friday found that U.S. President Donald Trump should be able to resume mass firings at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, ruling that a lower court had lacked jurisdiction in temporarily blocking this, court records showed.

However, the court said its decision would not take immediate effect, allowing lawyers representing CFPB workers and pro-consumer organizations to seek reconsideration by the full Circuit Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia.

"We hold that the district court lacked jurisdiction to consider the claims predicated on loss of employment, which must proceed through the specialized-review scheme" under laws governing the civil service, the majority wrote.

Other objections raised by the plaintiffs did not concern final decisions made by the agency and so could not be reviewed in court, wrote U.S. Circuit Judges Gregory Katsas and Neomi Rao, both Trump appointees.

In a dissent, Circuit Judge Cornelia Pillard said the lower court had acted properly in blocking the Trump administration from eradicating the CFPB entirely as the lawsuit played out, writing that "it is emphatically not within the discretion of the President or his appointees to decide that the country would benefit most if there were no Bureau at all."

Carrie Wheeler, the CEO of memestock Opendoor Technologies, is stepping down.

Her announcement comes as the company's stock is up more than 100% this year.

"The last weeks of intense outside interest in Opendoor have come at a time when the company needs to stay focused," she wrote.

Opendoor's CEO is out — and the stock is soaring.

Carrie Wheeler, the chief executive of Opendoor Technologies, announced on Friday that she's stepping down.

"The last weeks of intense outside interest in Opendoor have come at a time when the company needs to stay focused and charging ahead," Wheeler said in a post on X. "I believe the best thing I can do for Opendoor now is to accelerate my succession plans."

Opendoor shares were trading up 9% following the news.

Today, I am stepping down as CEO of Opendoor. When the Board of Directors asked me to take on this role at the end of 2022, the company was in crisis. The real estate market was punishing, the business needed a reset, and the path forward was uncertain. My mandate was clear:…

— Carrie Wheeler (@carriecwheeler) August 15, 2025

Wheeler's departure comes amid Opendoor's meme stock rally that has sent the residential real estate company's share price up nearly 220% in the past month. The stock is up over 100% since January.

Hedge fund manager Eric Jackson first drove the rally in July, when he posted that he believed OpenDoor "could be a 100-bagger over the next few years." (Jackson wrote on X that "I was on a livestream when she quit lol.")

Retail investors flocked to the stock, leading investor and tech entrepreneur Anthony Pompliano to post that he, too, had purchased shares.

A sharp uptick ensued.

Wheeler joined Opendoor as CEO in 2022 and helped turn the company around.

"We went from $1 billion in losses when I took over, to announcing our first quarter of positive EBITDA in three years this past quarter," she said in her social media post announcing her departure.

Opendoor Technologies (OPEN) shares spiked as 8% in early trading Friday after the company announced that CEO Carrie Wheeler will step down, effective immediately.

The company's board appointed Opendoor's chief technology and product officer Shrisha Radhakrishna as president and interim leader of the company. Opendoor, which uses iBuyer real estate technology to flip homes, said it was searching for a new CEO.

Wheeler stepped into the CEO role in December 2022, replacing Eric Wu, one of the company's co-founders. Prior to that she served as CFO and board member of the company.

Since going public through a SPAC transaction in 2020, Opendoor has yet to post a profitable quarter. The company received a warning in May that it faced potential delisting from the Nasdaq after trading under $1 for more than 30 days.

Shares have surged more than 200% in the past month, powered in part by Carvana (CVNA) turnaround spotter EMJ Capital and speculative investors on Reddit's wallstreetbets, a haven for meme stocks.

EMJ Capital founder and president Eric Jackson said in an X post on July 14 that his firm was taking a long position in Opendoor, which was then trading under $1 per share.

Jackson has been critical of Opendoor's top leadership, most recently following the company's latest quarterly results in early August, when the stock sank 20% following disappointing earnings forecast.

"The communication on the earnings call from the CEO and the CFO was really awful," Jackson told Yahoo Finance last week.

Year-to-date Opendoor shares are up 100%.

How To Earn $500 A Month From Flexsteel Industries Stock Ahead Of Q4 Earnings

Flexsteel Industries, Inc. (NASDAQ:FLXS) will release earnings results for the fourth quarter, after the closing bell on Monday, Aug. 18.

Analysts expect the Dubuque, Iowa-based company to report quarterly earnings at 84 cents per share, up from 75 cents per share in the year-ago period. Flexsteel Industries projects to report quarterly revenue of $111.82 million, compared to $110.82 million a year earlier, according to data from Benzinga Pro.

On April 21, Flexsteel Industries reported better-than-expected third-quarter financial results.

With the recent buzz around Flexsteel Industries, some investors may be eyeing potential gains from the company's dividends. Currently, the company offers an annual dividend yield of 2.24%, which is a quarterly dividend amount of 20 cents per share (80 cents a year).

So, how can investors capitalize and pocket a regular $500 monthly?

To earn $500 per month or $6,000 annually from dividends alone, you would need an investment of approximately $268,050 or around 7,500 shares. For a more modest $100 per month or $1,200 per year, you would need $53,610 or around 1,500 shares.

To calculate: Divide the desired annual income ($6,000 or $1,200) by the dividend ($0.80 in this case). So, $6,000 / $0.80 = 7,500 ($500 per month), and $1,200 / $0.80 = 1,500 shares ($100 per month).

View more earnings on FLXS

Note that dividend yield can change on a rolling basis, as the dividend payment and the stock price both fluctuate over time.

How that works: The dividend yield is computed by dividing the annual dividend payment by the stock's current price.

For example, if a stock pays an annual dividend of $2 and is currently priced at $50, the dividend yield would be 4% ($2/$50). However, if the stock price increases to $60, the dividend yield drops to 3.33% ($2/$60). Conversely, if the stock price falls to $40, the dividend yield rises to 5% ($2/$40).

Similarly, changes in the dividend payment can impact the yield. If a company increases its dividend, the yield will also increase, provided the stock price stays the same. Conversely, if the dividend payment decreases, so will the yield.

FLXS Price Action: Shares of Flexsteel Industries fell 1.8% to close at $35.74 on Thursday.
